James C. McSween Jr. graduated from the University of Chattanooga in 1952 and from the University of Tennessee College of Law in December 1953. He was admitted to the bar of the Tennessee Supreme Court on April 5, 1954 and joined his father in the practice of law in Newport under the firm name, McSween and McSween. After serving three years in the United States Army Judge Advocate General's Corps he returned to practice with his father in 1957. He was appointed United States Magistrate in 1962, and as Chancellor of the 13th Chancery Division in 1976.
Mr. McSween serves as General Counsel for the Newport Utilities board. He is a member of the American Bar Association and the Tennessee Bar Association and has served on several of its committees.
Mr. McSween is licensed to practice law in the State of Tennessee, in the United States District Court, and in the United States Bankruptcy Court in the Eastern District of Tennessee. He is also an agent for the First American Title Company.
